Digipea for Firefox OS is now available!

Digipea your favorite places is now available as privileged open web app for FirefoxOS devices on the Firefox Marketplace!

From the very beginning we opted to develop the Digipea your favorite places mobile app using open web technologies as HTML5, CSS, Javascript and open source frameworks as Google Web Toolkit and Apache Cordova (aka Phonegap), thinking that this is the most efficent way to manage mobile cross-platform development and maybe the only one available for small sized, self-financed tech startup as we are.

With this release, having Digipea your favorite places mobile app available on 3 different platforms (iOS, Android and FirefoxOS) and using the same code-base with the same technologies, we can confirm we have mastered the cross-platform development on mobile.

If you are interested in mobile cross-platform open web apps and want to know more about the technical implementations we used on Digipea, please feel free to contact us by commenting here, writing an email to info@digipea.com or by contacting us on facebook, google+, twitter and linkedin.

What’s new on Digipea 1.2
Improved layout
Digipea 1.2 comes with full built-in support for latest iOS and Android versions (iOS 8 and Android Kitkat) and is backward compatible with older versions as iOS 6 and Android Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Also we improved the application layout for a best fit also on larger screen smartphones, on phablets and on tablets as for example iPhone 6 and 6+, iPad, Nexus 5, 7 and 10, Samsung Galaxy Note, Amazon Fire Phone, Amazon Kindle and so on.

Search for places around
Search for nearby places feature is now available. You can filter search results:

  • by source (your places or others on google places),
  • by place category (eat & drink, view, etc.)
  • by position (your current location or a specified address).

Search results will be showed on a map as interactive markers that will allow you to instantly display basic information about the place they refer to and activate the related options: see place full details, like-in or edit the place, call place.

Get directions to places
It is now possible to get directions to places: select a place on your organiser, open options on upper-right corner and select “directions”. This will automatically open your OS default navigation system with the best path from your current position to the destination place.

Share places
Privacy matter! We built Digipea to be private: the places you add are private by default and will only be shared with friends you choose on Digipea.
Anyway, we know, sometimes friends that aren’t yet on Digipea are asking you for recommendations about places and sometimes you just want to share that interesting place to the outside world…

Digipea 1.2 will allow you to selectively share single places to external social networks as:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Whatsapp

Adding places is now simpler and faster
We worked hard to improve the usability in adding new places. With Digipea 1.2, you have now 4 ways for adding new places, and add process is faster and simpler than ever.

  • Add places on the go: set the place name and save. Location is retrieved with GPS.
  • Add places by address: set the place name and an address. Location is retrieved by geocoding the address.
  • Add place by like-in one of your friend places: open your friend’s place and select the like-in option. Your notes and recommendations about the selected place will be added to your organiser.
  • Add place by like-in on one of the places around: a copy of the selected place, with your own comment, will be added to your organiser.

Please feel free to leave a comment about the new Digipea version. We really would like to know what you think about it!

Really thanks also to CEIN and his EIBT programme (Empresas Innovadoras de Base Tecnológica), that allowed us to build the foundations of the project.
