Digipea, your favourite place organiser

Founded in 2011 by Enrico Bertelletti @ebertelletti and Gianpaolo De Biase, Digipea is a technology startup company with headquarters in Pamplona, Spain.

Initial idea

Observing the evolution of mobile technology towards the development of smartphone devices and considering the focus on the web social networks in the last few years, it was clear to us that the basic phonebook embedded in each device is outdated.
Digipea was born to cater as an extension of the phonebook and moves towards something more useful and closer to the needs of today’s users. So:
Why not expand the functionalities in order to support places other than individual people? And why not add social elements to improve our personal phonebook?

What is Digipea

Digipea is a free application that helps you to organise your favourite places in an easy, convenient and portable way. It is available on the web and also as an application for iPhone and Android. You can use Digipea for your personal use and share information with your friends and add recommendations about places.
With Digipea you can:

• organize places by category, city, and friends.
• add information for a place (geolocalization, pictures, tags, address, telephone, etc.);
• view the position of your places on the map;
• call your friends, restaurants, shops, etc. directly from your app;
• recommend and share places for your friends in real time;
• use your friends’ experiences to choose the right place to go;
• stop collecting restaurant business cards;
• stop adding scattered entries in your phonebook in regards to restaurants, hotels, etc.;
• stop asking your friends to write down (and then lose…) recommendations about an interesting place on social networks;
• no need to update your friends details for every change they make.

What is a LIKE-IN

The basic idea of Digipea is a geo-localized preference functionality we named like-in. Your place phonebook is a structured collection of you and your friends’ like-ins. If you find an interesting place in your friend´s phonebook that you also visited in the past, you can add a recommendation, making a like-in of that place. We like the idea that like-ins represent the best places and the ones that have more visibility.

Privacy

Digipea was created with the idea to respect users privacy: the places you add into the system will not be visible outside the Digipea community and the information associated with your places will never be used by search engines.

Where we are now

Digipea was winner of CREA EIBT 2009 award (Cein, Gobierno de Navarra).
Digipea has been online since October 2011 in beta version for web, iPhone and Android and it is available in 3 languages: English, Spanish and Italian.
So far the community has 110 people that had access to beta version, 353 places, 97 cities, 20 countries and 172 pictures. This numbers are still small, but we think that they will grow soon and rapidly.
The first Digipea public release will be soon available on web, Apple App Store and Google Play. We´ll keep you posted.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us during this period, especially to those who have accepted to test the initial beta private versions, helping us to resolve issues on the system and to improve the quality of the product. Digipea is still not the product we would like, we have worked hard, but we know that there are a lot of things that have to be improved to provide our users with a fantastic result. We will keep doing our best.
